the eagle has landed!

spring has sprung early at wagonhound land and livestock company! we have 2 colts on the ground now! The first came yesterday..he's the sorrel colt, and has a blaze in his face. He was born around 5 am we think. He was discovered at 6, and luckily his momma, Kuki, was up in the barn rather than outside.

The second colt came today around 11.30, and his momma, Della, had been turned back out in a paddock for the day,so we discovered him on te ground outside on the coldest day we've had this week! We brought him into the barn on the back of the gator with mom in tow.

We've decided to go with a country singers theme for the nicknames or the babies this year. The first two are Waylon and Merle, respectively.

Tenina is in the barn tonight for observation. Who knows- we could have 3 babies before the end of January!

  1. Rosie: I have been following your blog since you and Seth left PA in Jan. What an exciting journey. The new foals are beautiful - shown with their moms in the box stalls. What a great job!!

Could you send me Anne's address in Utah. I know she probably can't make the wedding in 3 weeks but just like you, I want both of you to know I will be thinking of you and wishing you were here. Phillip has been very sick since Jan. 23.....thru Feb. into March with what was thought to be a ruptured appendix.. Instead, same symptoms, epiploic appendigitus....an appendadge on the colon became twisted and gangrenous...Infection set in -following the removal of the appendage and appendix...he remained on antibiotics w/drain tube in his abdomimal region. Still, on this 23 day of March (three weeks out of hospital and Swain) he remains weak with little appetite. Hopefully, he will be better for the wedding. Send me an e-mail if you can w/Anne's address. Lots of love and best wishes.
